Fire kills two children in Zhytomyr region

In Ukraine's northern Zhytomyr region, a fire has killed two babies whom their parents had left at home alone.

Ukraine's State Emergency Service announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

"The girls, born in 2021 and 2022, died in a fire that broke out on January 28 in a private residential building in the village of Hrabniak, Zhytomyr district. It is likely that things and a child's bed, which was standing next to the stove, caught fire," the post reads.

According to preliminary information, the parents and their three older children went to visit their neighbors, whereas the two younger ones remained at home.

"When they returned and opened the door of the veranda, they saw smoke in the house, and in one room, they found unconscious children on the floor. They took them outside and tried to bring them to their senses, but they failed to do it," the State Emergency Service said.

The final cause of the fire is being established.
