Explosion at Kyiv building: rescuers find fifth dead body under rubble

Rescuers have found the body of another person under the rubble of a multi-storey building in Kyiv's Darnytsky district in which an explosion occurred on Sunday, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reports.

“As of 03:30 on June 23, units of the State Emergency Service found the body of a dead man, born in 1976, who was identified by his neighbor. Thus, five bodies have been pulled from the rubble: two women born in 1943 and 1974, and three men born in 1991, 1967, and 1976," the report says.

Coordination of works is carried out by the Headquarters for Elimination of Emergencies of Kyiv City State Administration.

In total, 42 pieces of equipment and 211 people are working at the scene of the incident.

As reported, at 10:00 on June 21, a powerful explosion damaged several apartments in a multi-storey building in Kyiv's Darnytsky district. The explosion destroyed interfloor structures between the fourth and eighth floors. Four people were killed and five more injured.

The Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv opened a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Article 270 (violation of fire safety requirements established by law) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
