SBU sees sabotage as likely reason for explosions at arms depots near Ichnia

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is considering the theory of a possible act of sabotage at an arms depot in Ichnia district, Chernihiv region, the SBU's press center has reported.

"Due to the emergency situation near the village of Druzhba in Ichnia district at the warehouses of military unit A1479 of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, an investigation and operational group of the Central Office of the SBU and the administration of the service arrived at the scene. Urgent investigative (search) operations are being carried out," reads the statement.

It notes that law enforcement officers are checking several theories. In particular, the Security Service of Ukraine, within the limits of its competence, is working on the theory of a possible act of sabotage.

As part of criminal proceedings instituted by the military prosecutor's office under Part 3 of Art 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the SBU directorate in Chernihiv region will conduct a pre-trial investigation.

It was reported at 03.30 on Tuesday, October 9, that a fire broke out at the arms depots of military unit A1479 of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the village of Druzhba in the Ichnia district of Chernihiv region. About 12,000 people have already been evacuated from the scene of the incident.
