Number of road accidents in Ukraine drops by 10%

For the first seven months of this year, 81,006 road traffic accidents were registered in Ukraine, 10% less than in 2017.

"For the first seven months of this year, 81,006 road traffic accidents were registered in Ukraine, 10% less than in 2017. This number includes 12,090 road accidents with casualties (16% less). 1,545 people were killed and 15,647 people were injured as a result, 8.5% and 16.5% less than last year," First Deputy Chief of the Patrol Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine Oleksiy Biloshytsky announced this, the press service of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reports.

According to Biloshytsky, the main causes for road traffic accidents with casualties were: speeding (34%), violation of maneuvering rules (20%), violation of crossroad driving rules (8%), violation of traffic rules by pedestrians (8%), violation of pedestrian crossing rules (7%), tailgating (7%),  drunken driving (4%).
