Three killed in mortar explosion at Rivne training area

Three Ukrainian servicemen have been killed and nine more wounded after a mortar exploded at the Rivne training area early on Friday, the press service of the command of the Ukrainian Ground Forces has reported.

"Today, on July 6, at 05.55, an extraordinary event occurred during the brigade tactical live-fire exercises at the Rivne general forces training area. According to preliminary data, three servicemen were killed and nine more sustained wounds of various degrees of severity after a mortar blew up," the report says.

The drills were suspended under the decision of the commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. An official inquiry into the causes of the incident on the firing positions was started. The circumstances of the tragic incident are being clarified.
