Flu epidemic threshold exceeded by 16.8% in Ukraine - Health Ministry

Over the sixth week of 2018, February 5-11, almost 26,000 people fell ill with flu and acute respiratory infection. Two flu-related deaths were registered.

This has been reported by the Public Health Center of the Ukrainian Health Ministry.

“The epidemic threshold has been exceeded by 16.8% in Ukraine. The threshold has been exceeded in Vinnytsia, Volyn, Zhytomyr, Rivne, and Khmelnitsky regions. A total of 258,036, have fallen ill with flu and acute respiratory infection, of whom 70% are children… Over the reporting week, two deaths from flu and rhinovirus infection were registered among children under 17,” reads the report.

In general, according to the information bulletin of the Ukraine National Influenza Center, the epidemic thresholds have been exceeded in the following regions: Vinnytsia region - 8.1%, Volyn - 7.7%, Zhytomyr - 12.3%, Rivne - 4.7%, and Khmelnitsky - 5.7%. The National Influenza Center noted that this indicates an average intensity of influenza and acute respiratory infection.

Since the beginning of the epidemic season in Ukraine, 181,081 people have been vaccinated against influenza.
