At least 60,000 police officers to guard polling stations in Ukraine
At least 60,000 police officers will be involved in guarding polling stations during local elections in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's press service has reported, with reference to Head of the National Police Ihor Klymenko.
"The head of the National Police stressed that 100% of all police personnel will be working during the elections. In particular, at least 60,000 police officers will be involved in guarding polling stations," the report reads.
Klymenko called on the media to actively cover all violations of the election law in order to ensure a strong preventive effect.
First Deputy Interior Minister Serhiy Yarovy said that 136,000 law enforcement officers, including police officers, National Guard servicemen, as well as border guards, rescuers and migration service specialists, were to be involved in maintaining order during the elections.
"We have established close coordination with all heads of law enforcement agencies in the regions to ensure security both during the election campaign and during the election itself. We focus on prevention, namely the detection of offenses," Yarovy said.
Regular local elections will be held in Ukraine on October 25.
