Kernes nominated for Kharkiv mayor

Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes has been officially nominated as a candidate for Kharkiv mayor.

The nomination took place at a conference of the Kernes Bloc - Successful Kharkiv on Wednesday, September 23, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The Kernes Bloc has united responsible people. Is there a mayor like Kernes in other cities? Strong, smart, charismatic? I will answer at once - there is no such mayor," Kharkiv's first vice-mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

According to him, Kernes for Kharkiv means stability and confidence in the future: "Hennadiy Adolfovych Kernes is already a brand of the city."

Kernes's candidacy was supported by all 21 delegates of the party conference.

Kernes last appeared in public on Kharkiv City Day on August 23.

He has been on leave since September 10.

On September 15, the Kharkiv city administration confirmed that Kernes had contracted coronavirus. He was taken to Kharkiv City Hospital No. 17 in a serious but stable condition.

On September 17, Kernes was transported by a medical plane to the Charite hospital in Germany.
