Secretary General of Council of Europe congratulates Zelensky on victory

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland has congratulated Volodymyr Zelensky on winning Ukraine's presidential election.

“Warm congratulations to Volodymyr Zelensky on winning the presidential elections. Ukraine is a valued member of the Council of Europe. We look forward to continue our cooperation on reforms, including the development of a decent and credible judiciary,” Jagland posted on Twitter.

Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Dmytro Kuleba commented on Jagland’s statement.

"The Secretary General of the Council of Europe congratulated Volodymyr Zelensky. He confirmed that the CoE is ready to continue to support reforms, namely the judicial reform. I wish he had refused to support the unconditional return of the Russian Federation to PACE. Jagland will soon leave his post, but the Council of Europe will continue to support reforms,” Kuleba wrote on Twitter.

As reported, the second round of Ukraine’s presidential elections was held on Sunday, April 21. According to the National Exit Poll, Volodymyr Zelensky won 73% of the vote, and Petro Poroshenko got 25.5%.
