Lukashenko greets Zelensky on winning Ukraine election

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated Volodymyr Zelensky on winning Ukraine's presidential election, the press service of the Belarusian leader has told BelTA.

Lukashenko confirmed that Belarus had always been and would remain a predictable partner for Ukraine.

"I am pleased to note that fraternal connections between Belarusians and Ukrainians, tempered by a common history, have traditionally been the foundation of relations between our countries. I confirm that Belarus has always been and will remain a predictable partner, a reliable neighbor and a good friend for Ukraine," the president added.

He also expressed confidence that joint efforts would help maintain for a long time and deepen the positive dynamics of bilateral cooperation, and the activities of Volodymyr Zelensky as head of state would contribute to the prosperity of Ukraine and the establishment of peace and civil concord.

Lukashenko wished Zelensky good health and the implementation of all plans for the benefit of the friendly Ukrainian people.

With over 96% of ballots counted in Ukraine's presidential election, Zelensky wins 73.14% of the vote, whereas the incumbent head of state, Petro Poroshenko, gets 24.53% of the vote.

The voter turnout was 62.09%.
