Poroshenko: Kremlin has plan to disrupt presidential elections in Ukraine

The Kremlin has a plan to disrupt the presidential elections in Ukraine and turn them into an internal conflict.

"Putin is not going to leave us alone. These days we see the evidence that the Kremlin wants to use the elections to destabilize the situation in Ukraine. I mean not just meddling in the elections to secure [a victory] of the candidates, who would be of benefit to Moscow, I mean the implementation of a plan to disrupt the elections, to turn them into an internal conflict," President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said during the festivities on the occasion of the Day of the National Guard of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In this context, the Head of State stressed that his main duty as the President, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the guarantor of the constitutional rights and freedoms of citizens is to protect the will of the Ukrainian people, while the duty of the servicepersons is to prevent the attempts to undermine the elections.

"The Ukrainian people will elect the President of Ukraine, and we will do everything possible to make this process transparent and hold it in accordance with the law, the European standards," Poroshenko emphasized.
