MoE estimates uptake of fuel cashback program among Ukrainians
According to estimates by the Ministry of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, approximately 3 million people will participate in the fuel price reimbursement program.
This was announced by Vitalii Kindrativ, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture, in an interview with Ukrinform.
“The estimate was based on the maximum cashback amount per person—1,000 UAH—as well as the projected number of people who will use the fuel cashback, which is approximately 3 million Ukrainians. Funding is provided through the reallocation of funds within the support programs overseen by the Ministry of Economy,” said Kindrativ.
He noted that there are no restrictions on vehicle specifications for participation in the program. At the same time, by setting a limit of no more than 1,000 UAH per person per month, the ministry aims to level the playing field for car owners with different fuel consumption rates.
According to Kindrativ, the introduction of fuel cashback should not affect market prices, as the program does not directly influence pricing or the structure of the fuel market.
“It [the program] functions as a tool for partial reimbursement of expenses after a purchase has already been made, so it does not create incentives for artificially increasing consumption or creating a rush of demand,” the minister added.
As reported, the fuel cashback program launched on March 20 and will run until May 1. The cashback amount depends on the type of fuel: 15% is provided for diesel; 10% for gasoline; 5% for autogas.
For Ukrainians who are already using the “National Cashback” program, everything will be credited automatically when paying with a card linked to the program.
