Burshtyn TPP halts operations following Russian attack
Over several hours, Russian forces attacked the Burshtyn Thermal Power Plant (TPP) with missiles and drones, causing a temporary shutdown of heat and water supply in the town. The plant itself also temporarily ceased operations.
Burshtyn Mayor Vasyl Andriieshyn said announced this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
According to the Mayor, the night of February 7 was “very tense.” The enemy targeted energy facilities from 3:00 to 8:00.
“These were Kalibr and other missiles, as well as Shahed drones. We’ve never had an alert last this long,” Andriieshyn said.
The missile strikes caused severe damage to the TPP.
“The station is now at zero. We see that we have no heat or water,” the Mayor said.
In the evening, an emergency session of the town’s Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations Commission was held. The session produced a series of decisions aimed at stabilizing the situation in the town.
At the same time, the mayor noted that heat supply is currently unavailable in Burshtyn.
“We must restore heating within 48 hours, and we will. This will come either from local boiler houses or from the Burshtyn TPP – we don’t know yet. Tomorrow, we must supply heat,” he assured.
Cold water supply is also expected to be restored.
If the Burshtyn TPP is not quickly restored, residents will remain without hot water.
If the situation cannot be stabilized promptly, some schools may temporarily switch to online learning.
Previously, it was reported that Russian forces also targeted 750 kV and 330 kV power lines, as well as the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir TPPs.
