Svyrydenko, Rutte discuss urgent aid for Ukraine's energy sector
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte discussed urgent assistance that NATO member states can provide to restore Ukraine's energy sector.
According to Ukrinform, Svyrydenko stated this on Telegram.
"Today, I welcomed Mark Rutte, Secretary General of NATO, to Ukraine at a moment when our country is once again enduring a massive Russian assault on civilian life and critical energy infrastructureI am grateful for the Secretary General's clear solidarity with Ukraine and for his unequivocal condemnation of Russia's attempt to weaponize winter. Since the beginning of this year alone, Russia has carried out 217 attacks on Ukraine's energy facilities using missiles and drones of various types," Svyrydenko said.
The parties discussed urgent assistance that NATO member states can provide to restore Ukraine's energy sector, in particular through the EADRCC mechanism – the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre.
"Equipment supplied by our partners remains critical for repairing damaged power plants, restoring grids, and securing gas infrastructure under constant threat of renewed attacks," Svyrydenko noted.
The parties also focused on the need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense with additional systems and missiles to protect people, cities, and critical infrastructure. Svyrydenko emphasized that the PURL initiative has proven effective, and the Ukrainian government is asking allies and partners to expand their contributions.
Ukraine is also deepening cooperation under the NATO Security Assistance and Training Initiative for Ukraine (NSATU) and the NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre (JATEC).
"Russia seeks to break resilience through terror. Ukraine, together with its partners, is proving that resilience is stronger," Svyrydenko stressed.
As Ukrinform reported, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, together with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, visited one of Kyiv’s CHP plants that was attacked by Russia overnight.
