Over 29,000 generators already installed at municipal enterprises across Ukraine
As of the end of December, more than 29,000 generators and 570 MW of distributed gas generation have been installed at municipal enterprises across Ukraine.
Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development Kostiantyn Kovalchuk said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Yes, as of today, more than 29,000 generators have been installed at municipal enterprises in Ukraine, along with about 570 MW of distributed gas generation. At the same time, everyone understands that generators cannot operate continuously from a technological standpoint, so backup power supply options must also be envisaged, and if necessary, even several generators," Kovalchuk said.
He noted that the ministry recently collected updated data on the needs of water utilities and district heating companies for backup power sources. This information is being forwarded to the Ministry of Energy, which coordinates the work of the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.
"In addition, we are working with donors – UNICEF, GIZ, the World Bank, and the governments of other countries – with everyone who is within our field of engagement. Almost all of the abovementioned 570 MW of distributed generation has been installed thanks to international assistance," Kovalchuk added.
He also said that communities were required to test emergency response algorithms while preparing for the winter season, including procedures for using alternative power sources.
"It must be understood that there is no single unified formula for responding to emergencies, as each region has its own infrastructure specifics. At the same time, each community has its own emergency response plan. We focused regional authorities on updating these plans, taking into account current challenges," Kovalchuk said.
