Gas being pumped into UGS facilities ahead of schedule – Galushchenko

Gas is being pumped into Ukrainian underground gas storage (UGS) facilities ahead of schedule. More than 13 billion cubic meters of natural gas have already been injected.

Minister of Energy of Ukraine German Galushchenko stated this during his visit to one of the facilities of JSC Ukrtransgaz in Lviv region, Ukrinform reports, referring the ministry’s press service.

Galushchenko stated that with the approach of winter, the load on gas production and gas distribution enterprises will increase. Moreover, due to the complication of logistics routes, the use of gas for the production of electricity has also grown.

At the same time, Galushchenko noted the effective work of the entire team of Naftogaz of Ukraine, in particular Ukrtransgaz, one of the results of which was the certification of Ukrainian UGS facilities in line with European standards. This created opportunities for foreign companies to store gas in Ukraine.

European companies have already begun to actively pump blue fuel into Ukrainian UGS facilities, where about 600 million cubic meters of foreign gas are already stored. This is an important contribution to ensuring the energy security of Ukraine and the entire European continent.

As reported, Oleksiy Chernyshov, Chairman of the Board of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine, stated that Ukraine will be able to get through the 2023-2024 heating season without importing gas.

It was also reported that the European Union's gas storage facilities have already reached almost 90% capacity, which is 2.5 months ahead of schedule.
