Romania seeks to double transit capacity for Ukrainian grain

In the near future, Romania will double its transit capacity for grain coming from Ukraine from 2 million tons to 4 million tons per month.

This was announced by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania, Sorin Grindianu, Ukrinform reports with reference to Romania-Insider.

It is noted that sea and railway routes are provided to this end. According to Grindyanu, the Sulina Channel is the only alternative for sea transportation.

He promised to "optimize" - within the framework of an EU-funded project worth EUR 18 million - the use of the Sulina Channel, where Ukraine's Danube ports are located.

In the medium term, Minister Grindianu is talking about a EUR1 billioninvestment in the rail link of the port of Constanta and more investment in road and rail infrastructure projects, which are critical to the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on August 10, 2023, Ukraine announced new temporary routes for merchant vessels heading to/from the Black Sea seaports of Ukraine, but throughout all routes there remains a military threat and mine danger posed by the Russian Federation.
