Over 170 hectares of farmland demined in Ukraine over past week

In Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions of Ukraine, 172 hectares of agricultural lands were cleared of explosive objects in the past seven days.

That’s according to the Military Media Center, Ukrinform reports.

"Over the course of a week, engineering units of Ukraine’s Support Forces Command cleared explosive objects in Kharkiv region, covering 2 hectares of farmland and about 3.5 km of power lines, where more than 240 explosive objects were neutralized and destroyed; in Kherson region, it was more than 60 hectares of farmland and more than 4,000 m2 of buildings, where about 320 explosive objects were dealt with; in Mykolaiv region, over 110 hectares of farmland were cleared as more than 630 explosive objects were neutralized and destroyed," the statement says.

In general, Ukraine’s sappers demined 3,140,535 hectares of farmland, 21,33 hectares of forests, 199,909 km of power lines, 40 km of gas mains, 207,924 km of roads, and 332,059 m2 of buildings. A total of 49,439 explosive objects were neutralized and destroyed.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on April 21, speaking at the International Summit of Cities and Regions within the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko said Ukraine needed ten times the number of humanitarian demining specialists working across the country today.
