Minister Galushchenko: Ukraine can export electricity to EU countries in view of capacity surplus

Ukraine needs to expand opportunities for the commercial exchange of electricity with Europe.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko at a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, an Ukrinform correspondent reports, referring to the Ukrainian Energy Ministry.

“Now we are having the generation capacity surplus in the energy system and, thus, we can export electricity to European countries. This is a mutually beneficial process, as Europe can receive electricity at reasonable prices, and Ukrainian generating companies can earn money, namely for the post-war reconstruction of facilities. The ENTSO-E’s decision to expand opportunities for the import and export of electricity between Ukraine and the EU is very important to us,” Galushchenko emphasized.

Galushchenko noted the European Commission’s high assessment of Ukraine’s implementation of European legislation in the energy sector.

“The level of the implementation of European norms into Ukrainian legislation is 75%. This is a very high indicator. We are currently conducting self-screening, monitoring the implemented norms and updating further steps,” Galushchenko added.

A reminder that, on March 16, 2022, Ukraine’s energy system was synchronized with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).
