Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has met with French Energy Transition Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher. The parties discussed support for Ukraine’s energy sector after Russian attacks and the need to impose sanctions on Russia, regarding the supply of nuclear fuel and nuclear energy technologies.

The relevant statement was made by the Government portal, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We are working with partners to ensure that Ukraine successfully passes the winter and moves on to sustainable recovery and adoption of new modern technologies in the energy sector,” Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine expressed gratitude to France for the assistance provided, namely about 73 tonnes of power equipment, which had already been delivered to Ukrainian companies in order to restore and stabilize the country’s energy system.

In the course of the meeting, Shmyhal stressed the need to jointly counteract Russia’s nuclear terrorism.

“Radiation and nuclear safety is the first point of the peace plan of the President of Ukraine. Russia must withdraw its troops from Zaporizhzhia NPP and stop illegal actions against the Ukrainian power plant. We must expand the IAEA mission in order to create a demilitarized zone and start working on the implementation of effective sanctions against Russia and its companies in the nuclear energy sector,” Shmyhal noted.

According to Pannier-Runacher, France is preparing another batch of equipment needed to restore Ukraine’s energy system.
