Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had devastating impact on economies - Meloni at G20

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said at the G20 summit that the Russian-Ukrainian war has had a huge impact on the international order and that the group of the world's biggest economies must tackle it.

That’s according to ANSA, Ukrinform reports.

“When Indonesia took over the presidency of the G20 (last year), it was impossible to predict that Russia would invade Ukraine and the devastating impact this would have on the world order and our economies. In order to succeed in its mission, the G20 must have the courage to face the most difficult challenges on the agenda, starting with the consequences of the Ukrainian conflict in the economic, energy and food sectors that are affecting everyone and are undoubtedly affecting developing countries predominantly,” Meloni said.

According to her, no one could have thought that this war would lead to a food crisis and an emergency situation in the field of energy.

"But we didn't allow anyone to intimidate us. We reacted and continued to work together. Not only on energy and food, but also on many other challenges: the defense of the environment, the fight against climate change, more efficient infrastructure, quality education, health care for all. Future generations deserve a better world and we all have a duty to work to move in this direction," Meloni said.

A two-day summit of the leaders of the G20 countries began on the Indonesian island of Bali on November 15, with much attention to be paid to Ukraine.
