IAEA Director General: External power to Zaporizhzhia NPP restored

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, announced that the external power supply to the Zaporizhzhia NPP had been restored.

“I've been informed by our team on site that external power to Zaporizhzhya NPP is restored. ZNPP's operator says this morning's outage was caused by shelling damage to a far off sub-station, highlighting how precarious the situation is. We need a protection zone ASAP,” Grossi posted on Twitter.

Earlier today, he informed that the plant lost all of its external power for the second time in five days.

As reported, the Russian military captured the Zaporizhzhia NPP, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, on March 4. Since then, the invaders have placed military equipment and ammunition on the plant’s territory, shelling the plant and its surrounding area, destroying power lines, causing power units to shut down, and blaming the Armed Forces of Ukraine for that.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi met with Russian President Putin on Tuesday, scheduling a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky later this week.
