Under any circumstances, central heating supplies to be ensured to Ukrainian households - Ukrenergo

Ukrainian households will be provided with electricity under all scenarios of the upcoming heating season, which were worked out by NEC Ukrenergo analysts, including the shutdown of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant.

That’s according to Ukrenergo Chairman of the Board Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, who spoke at a briefing at the Media Center Ukraine – Ukrinform on Wednesday, September 14.

"Ukrenergo ran simulations of the autumn-winter period both with and without the ZNPP <...> In all the scenarios we simulated, including the pessimistic ones, the task of surviving the heating season and providing our consumers with power is difficult, but achievable," emphasized Kudrytskyi.

He noted that Ukraine's power system currently remains balanced.

"After the de-occupation, we will very quickly restore the entire infrastructure that ensures power output by the ZNPP, and we will very quickly see the plant back online," the chief of Ukrenergo assured.

He also recalled that the company had restored a reliable power supply to the ZNPP from Ukraine’s power system.

"From this point of view, the situation has somewhat stabilized compared to what it was," Kudrytskyi added.

As reported, since September 11, the Zaporizhia NPP has completely switched to a "cold shutdown" mode, having stopped generating electricity.

The ZNPP, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, was captured by the Russian military on March 4. Since then, the invaders have deployed military equipment and ammunition on the NPP site, shelling the surrounding area.

On September 6, the IAEA presented a report following its mission’s visit to the ZNPP. The document has confirmed cases of Russian forces placing their military equipment on the plant premises, including in the engine rooms of its power units.
