VR develops draft bill on compensation for housing losses

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has developed a draft bill on compensation for the housing lost by Ukrainians due to hostilities.

The relevant statement was made by Servant of the People Faction Head Olena Shuliak on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The state is preparing to provide compensation to the Ukrainians, whose housing was damaged or destroyed during the war. In particular, this refers to providing not money but a housing area of up to 150 square meters in area. Relevant draft bill No. 7198 was already registered in Parliament,” Shuliak noted.

In her words, people who lost their housing should apply via the Diia mobile application to become eligible to receive compensation. This will allow the state to start working and calculating the cost of housing recovery activities worth hundreds of billions of hryvnias.

“Many people are worried about this issue, as houses have been completely destroyed in many cities. This draft bill also enables people to choose a city, where they want to reside. In particular, if the apartment was located in Kharkiv, the owner will be able to choose an apartment with similar properties in another regional center,” Shuliak explained.

According to Shuliak, this initiative will help to collect the evidence of losses and use them in lawsuits against the Russian Federation to receive compensation.

A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile and air strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages, killing civilians.
