Australia to provide Ukraine with 70,000 tonnes of coal – Energy Ministry

Australia will provide Ukraine with at least 70,000 tonnes of thermal coal to strengthen energy security.

The Economy Ministry of Ukraine wrote this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

The Australian government has held talks with the country's coal companies to accumulate certain volumes of coal for further transfer to Ukraine as part of humanitarian aid.

It is noted that the Australian company Whitehaven Coal will organize a corresponding dispatch. Coal and its delivery costs will be covered by the Australian government.

“Australia is internationally recognized as a leading and reliable supplier of energy resources. We thank our Australian partners for helping Ukraine in this difficult time when our state is resisting an illegal and brutal military invasion by Russia," Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said.

As reported, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir  Putin announced the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Russian troops have been shelling and destroying key infrastructure facilities, conducting massive shelling of residential areas of Ukrainian cities and villages using artillery, multiple rocket launchers and ballistic missiles.
