Shmyhal: Integration into ENTSO-E to ensure Ukraine's energy independence

The integration into the European network ENTSO-E will allow Ukraine to ensure energy independence from Russia.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal wrote this on Facebook, when commenting on the consent of the Energy Community Secretariat to the final certification of the transmission system operator NPC Ukrenergo, Ukrinform reports.

"This is extremely important news for the Ukrainian power system to merge with the European one. Joining the ENTSO-E is scheduled for 2023. ‘Energy free visa regime’ with the EU will promote transparency in the electricity market, as well as allow ensuring energy independence from Russia,” the Prime Minister wrote.

Earlier, NEURC member Olha Babiy said that the Energy Community Secretariat had given consent to the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) to final certification of the transmission system operator NPC Ukrenergo in line with EU requirements and standards.

As reported, certification is one of the conditions for the synchronization of Ukraine’s power grid with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).

The Energy Community is an international organization which brings together the European Union and its neighbors to create an integrated pan-European energy market.

The key objective of the Energy Community is to extend the EU internal energy market rules and principles to countries in South East Europe, the Black Sea region and beyond on the basis of a legally binding framework.
