Stefanishyna: Ukraine supported number of international initiatives at COP26

During the COP26 UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Ukraine supported a number of international initiatives, which will help implement the second Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC2).

“During the Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Ukraine supported a number of international initiatives that will help implement the ambitious NDC2. These include the Global Methane Pledge, the Powering Past Coal Alliance, and the Declaration on Forests and Land Use. Ukraine also supported the ideas of developing clean energy, electric transport, transition to near-zero-emission solution for steel production, the development of hydrogen energy, and sustainable agriculture,” Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Olha Stefanishyna said during the round table meeting “Life after Glasgow. Conclusions and next steps of Ukraine and the world on climate change” in Kyiv on November 23, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to her, Ukraine will join several other initiatives after the completion of domestic procedures.

During the round table meeting, government officials and experts summed up the results of the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 26) and spoke about the impact of the decisions adopted in Glasgow on Ukraine's domestic climate policy and economy.

According to Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Iryna Stavchuk, Ukraine fulfilled its homework well by adopting an updated nationally determined contribution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“Ukraine did its homework well: we adopted an updated nationally determined contribution to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (NDC2). Our NDC2 is positively perceived at the level of bilateral meetings, and Ukraine is invited to a number of partnerships and initiatives for the practical implementation of projects and the search for technological solutions for decarbonization,” said Stavchuk.
