The Government of Ukraine appreciates practical contribution of Austria and the business of this country to the development of the Ukrainian economy.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said this at a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Ukraine Gernot Pfandler and representatives of the Austrian business, Ukrinform reports with a reference to the Government portal.

"Despite the pandemic, trade between our countries grew by 67.5% in the first half of 2021 and already amounted to $966.9 million. We are interested in further development of cooperation, because Austrian companies have created thousands of jobs in Ukraine, they pay significant taxes, and Austria is among the six largest investors in Ukraine,” Shmyhal said.

Participants of the meeting discussed a number of issues related to improving the business climate. In particular, Shmyhal stressed that Ukraine is making every effort to implement judicial reform.

"Relevant laws have been approved. Despite enormous opposition, the work of the Ethics Council is one of the steps that will help clean up the judicial system. All branches of the government, the entire Ukrainian society must take efforts to implement this really important reform,” he said.

In addition, according to Shmyhal, the government has set up an export credit agency to support business in Ukraine.

Among other things, the parties discussed the issue of increasing permits for international cargo transportation.

At the meeting, the Ukrainian prime minister stressed that the development of energy efficiency is an acute issue, especially against the background of the energy crisis in the world.
