Ukrainian economy minister meets with U.S. trade representative

Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Economy Oleksii Liubchenko and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai held a meeting in Washington on August 30 to discuss measures to strengthen Ukraine-U.S. cooperation in trade, economic and investment sectors.

Ukrinform reports this with a reference to the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy.

"Building common rules for digital trade and protection of intellectual property rights is a significant contribution to the development of human capital in Ukraine and the United States. Therefore, I propose focusing on these areas in the future dialogue," Liubchenko stressed.

He also highlighted the long-term close cooperation, in particular, the work as part of Ukraine-U.S. Trade and Investment Council.

In turn, Katherine Tai noted Ukraine's ambitious economic reform agenda and stressed the importance of further transparent reforms, building systems based on the rule of law in Ukraine. According to her, these efforts will strengthen confidence in the Ukrainian government and create a favorable environment for business development.

The interlocutors also discussed ways to increase investment between the two countries, as well as regulatory issues, digital trade issues, intellectual property issues, improving corporate governance, issues of negative impact of excessive steel and aluminum production capacity in countries with non-market economies, etc.

The parties reaffirmed readiness to deepen trade and economic relations and maintain a permanent dialogue in the future.
