NSDC orders government to draw up plan for transition to market prices for electricity for households

The National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) has instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to work out the procedure for a gradual transition to economically reasonable prices for electricity for household consumers by December 31, 2021.

According to Ukrinform, this is stated in the NSDC decision of July 30, 2021 "On measures to neutralize threats in the energy sector," which was enacted by presidential decree No. 452/2021 of August 28.

The procedure for the transition to market prices should provide social protection for people in need of state support.

By September 30, the government must develop and approve a plan to establish the fair value of electricity for the population and introduce an effective mechanism of liability for free energy consumption and late payments between market participants.

In addition, the NSDC instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to exclude state-owned stakes in regional electricity supply companies from the list of privatization objects. Such stakes should be transferred to the Ministry of Energy.
