Government seeks to strengthen protection of workers in hazardous sectors – Economy Ministry

The Cabinet of Ministers has supported a bill on amending the procedure for determining the minimum wage for dangerous work, Ukrinform reports, referring to the press service of the Ministry of Economy.

"On August 18, the government supported a bill aimed at improving the procedure for determining the minimum wage for difficult and dangerous work," reads the report.

The document provides for the right to determine, at the level of agreements and collective agreements, a list of difficult and dangerous work that involves increased wages.

“The proposed legislative changes will allow fixing the minimum amount of payment, whereas all surcharges for unfavorable conditions will be charged additionally. This will promote transparency in setting the amount of wages associated with unfavorable working conditions, and will increase the real income level of such workers,” Deputy Minister of Economy Svitlana Hlushchenko said.

In addition, the draft law proposes expanding the list of types of work for which an employee may receive higher wages.

As Ukrinform reported, according to the State Statistics Service, the average nominal salary in Ukraine amounted to UAH 14,313 in June 2021, which is 23.6% higher than in June 2020.
