Ministry of Energy doubles planned coal accumulation indicators for heating season

The Ministry of Energy has approved a new monthly coal accumulation schedule for thermal power plants (TPPs) and combined heat and power (CHP) plants, increasing the planned accumulation indicators by the start of the heating season by more than twice, to 3,046,400 tonnes of coal, Ukrinform reports referring to the Ministry of Energy.

"According to the new document, 3,046,400 tonnes of coal should be accumulated in the warehouses of TPPs and CHP plants by the beginning of the heating season. This is more than twice the figure of the previous schedule, which set a coal accumulation plan at 1,409,100 tonnes,” reads the report.

It is noted that the ministry's decision to increase coal accumulation indicators is due to the need to ensure stable electricity and heat supply during the autumn-winter period, as well as sustainable operation of the power system during tests in an isolated mode within preparations for synchronization with ENTSO-E.

As reported by Ukrinform, according to Ukrenergo, as of August 16, 763 thousand tons of coal were in the warehouses of TPPs, which is 38.8% less than the fuel storage schedule approved by the Ministry of Energy.
