Bread, pasta, sunflower oil and buckwheat increased in price in Ukraine over past year

From June 2020 to June 2021, only millet prices decreased among grocery products in Ukraine – by 15.6%, up to UAH 17.69 per kg, Ukrinform reports with reference to the State Statistics Service.

Since June 2020, buckwheat has risen in price by 13.7%, to UAH 42.01 per kg on average; rice has grown in price by 15.5%, to UAH 27.23 per kg, semolina - by 16.8%, to UAH 16.87 per kg, peeled barley – by 32.9%, to UAH 15.22 per kg. Compared to June 2020, only millet fell in price - by 15.6%, to UAH 17.69 per kg.

In June 2021, the average price of high-grade wheat bread totalled UAH 29.65 per 1 kg (up 19.5% from June 2020); first-grade wheat bread - UAH 23.80 per 1 kg (up 18.5%); rye and rye-wheat bread - UAH 24.87 per 1 kg (up 18.3%); French bread - UAH 16.33 per 0.5 kg (up 17.0%).

Over the reporting period, pasta from soft wheat flour rose in price by 20.7%, up to an average of UAH 23.15 per kg; wheat flour - by 21.5%, up to UAH 14.33 per kg; sugar - by 73.5%, up to UAH 25.92 per kg, sunflower oil - by 89.3%, up to UAH 64.95 per 1 liter.

As reported by Ukrinform, in June 2021, consumer prices in Ukraine grew by 0.2% compared to May 2021, by 9.5% compared to June 2020, and by 6.4% compared to June 2020. In general, consumer inflation was 8.3% in January-June 2021 compared to the same period in 2020.
