Ukraine and the European Union have launched a strategic partnership in the field of critical raw materials and batteries.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said this at the High-Level Conference on the Strategic Partnership between the European Union and Ukraine on Critical Raw Materials and Batteries, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

In particular, Shmyhal noted that Ukraine is ready to deepen cooperation with the EU in various areas, including critical raw materials.

"By launching a strategy of partnership with the EU in the field of critical raw materials and batteries, stipulated in a memorandum, we agree to unite forces and work with the EU to develop a green economy, create business opportunities and create new jobs," said Shmyhal.

He added that among the goals of the partnership, Ukraine sees the integration of Ukraine's processing industry into value added chains as a reliable supplier of products with a higher degree of processing.

Shmyhal stressed that Ukrainian industry can become an important partner for European companies.

"Ukraine can become an important element of the European Economic Area in the extractive sector and an integrated part of the EU's industrial chains. This includes the extraction, supply and processing of mineral resources that are critical for the EU,” Shmyhal said.

The Prime Minister also stressed that the development of cooperation with the EU in the field of raw materials and batteries is becoming important for Ukraine.

"This will facilitate the integration of mineral supply chains, strengthen strategic resilience in the post-pandemic recovery period, ensure smooth trade and investment in the raw materials industry," he said.
