Zelensky orders Shmyhal to restore justice in payment of pensions to military

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has instructed the government to take measures to restore justice in the payment of pensions to military retirees, the presidential press service has reported.

"Due to imperfect amendments to the law on indexation of incomes of Ukrainians, which were adopted in 207, the issue of indexation of military pensions was not settled. As a result, there is a significant difference between pensions granted before 2018 and new payments," the report reads.

The Ministry of Social Policy has developed a decision to increase payments to retired servicemen. The Cabinet of Ministers will adopt a respective resolution at its next meeting.

"This decision is designed to reduce the existing disparities. In particular, it is expected that a surcharge of 2,000 hryvnias for almost 400,000 military retirees who were granted pensions before March 1, 2018 will be set from July 1 this year. The minimum pension payment to the military will be set at 3,854 hryvnias," the President's Office said.

Payments for combatants who have lost their ability to work will also be increased. More than 40,000 people will receive an increase of almost 700 hryvnias.
