Ukrainian farmers gathered 1.4M tonnes of grain of new harvest

Ukrainian farmers harvested 1.4 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops over the first week of July, Ukrinform reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

"In Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson and Poltava regions, farmers have started harvesting early grain and leguminous crops, which have been already gathered from an area of 370,000 hectares (2% of the forecast) with a yield of 37.1 centners per hectare. The first million (almost 1.4 million tonnes) of grain crops of the new harvest have been already threshed,” reads the report.

In particular, Ukrainian farmers have already threshed 1 million tonnes of winter barley from an area of 265,000 hectares (11% of the forecast) with a yield of 39.3 centners per hectare, and 326,000 tonnes of winter wheat from an area of 103,000 hectares(2%) with a yield of 31.5 centners per hectare.

As reported by Ukrinform, experts forecast that Ukraine’s gross grain and leguminous crops will reach 70.7 million tonnes in 2021, which will exceed last year’s figures by 8.8%.

In 2020, Ukraine harvested 65.4 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops from an area of 15.3 million hectares; 83.8 million tonnes of main crops were harvested from an area of 24.1 million hectares.
