PM Shmyhal: Launch of land market to facilitate economic growth

Land market reform, which will be launched in a week, will facilitate economic growth. Farmers, who have been working on the land for many years, will have a preemptive right to buy it.

"Another reform, which will be launched in a week, will contribute to economic growth. We are talking about launching a land market. Today we will make some changes in the procedure for maintaining the register of real rights to real estate. This will ensure a completely correct sale procedure, correct record of all information in the register," Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on June 23, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

He stressed that all sales agreements would be checked for compliance with the law.

"I emphasize once again: the land market is about justice. The citizens of Ukraine will finally be able to freely dispose of their property as provided by the Constitution of our state. The land market is also about the economic development of the state and the success of Ukrainian farmers," the Prime Minister said.

He asked the relevant minister to pay attention to the need for information support for the reform.

"The Ministry of Agrarian Policy should provide the necessary level of information so that people on the ground understand all the benefits of land reform," the Head of Government concluded.

As reported, on March 31, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada passed the Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Concerning the Circulation of Agricultural Land." On April 28, it was signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The document lifts the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land, except for state-owned land, from July 2021. Citizens of Ukraine, territorial communities, and the state may acquire the right of ownership of agricultural land plots.
