Ukrainian currency strengthened since end of April – NBU

From the end of April 2021, the exchange rate of the Ukrainian currency against the dollar has strengthened by almost one hryvnia, according to Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Yuriy Heletiy.

"Since April 21, the hryvnia exchange rate has strengthened by almost one hryvnia," Heletiy said at a briefing on June 17, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to the NBU deputy governor, among the main factors that influenced the strengthening of the national currency was the reduction of military tensions at the Ukrainian border, resumption of non-residents' interest in securities and sale of currency by businesses.

According to Heletiy, the official exchange rate of hryvnia against the dollar has strengthened by 4.5% since the beginning of the year.

As Ukrinform reported, on June 2, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the forecast of economic and social development of Ukraine for 2022-2024 and the budget declaration for three years. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that inflation would return to the 5% target in 2023. The dollar exchange rate is expected in the corridor of UAH 28-29.
