Passenger traffic in Ukraine decreased by 35%

The number of passengers served by Ukrainian transport companies in January-March 2021 decreased by 35.3% compared with the relevant period in 2020, to 12.3 billion passenger-kilometers, according to the data provided by the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

In total, in Q1 2021, 624.0 million passengers used the services of domestic transport companies, which is 30.5% less compared with January-March 2020.

In particular, the number of passengers carried by rail in January-March 2021 reached 17.0 million, which is 39.3% less compared with the same period last year; passenger turnover totaled 2.93 billion passenger-kilometers (down 31.8%).

Some 258.7 million passengers were carried by motor vehicles in January-March 2021, which is 32.6% less compared with the same period last year, passenger turnover amounted to 4.27 billion passenger-kilometers (down 39.1%).

Ukrainian airlines carried 1.1 million passengers over the reporting period, which is 44.2% less than in January-March 2020; passenger turnover amounted to 2.85 billion passenger-kilometers (down 38.1%).

As Ukrinform reported, according to the State Statistics Service, the passenger turnover of transport enterprises amounted to 49.4 billion passenger-kilometers in 2020, which is down 53.9% compared with 2019.
