Turkey remains biggest exporter of fruit to Ukraine

In 2020, Turkey's share in Ukrainian fruit imports was 28.8%, making the country a leader among suppliers of these products, the Institute of Agrarian Economics reports.

According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the volume of fruit and nut imports to Ukraine in 2020 amounted to $795 million, up 18% compared to 2019. In recent years, Turkey remains the biggest supplier of these products to Ukraine. In 2020, Ukraine imported more than 269 thousand tonnes of fruit from Turkey. In terms of value, Turkey's share in domestic fruit imports was 28.8%.

Ukrainian companies also made significant fruit purchases from Ecuador (12.9% of total fruit imports), Greece (6.2%), Costa Rica (5.8%), Spain (5.4%) and Egypt (5%). Citrus fruit and bananas are traditionally in the greatest demand among fruit and berry products in Ukraine, accounting for almost 60% of fruit imports in value terms in 2020.

If more than half of citrus imports originate from Turkey, bananas are mainly purchased from Latin America, in particular Ecuador and Costa Rica, which last year accounted for about 80% of banana supply in value terms.
