Shmyhal: Resuming work of Agrarian Policy Ministry among government's priorities

The full resumption of work of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine in 2021 is among government's priorities, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.

"One of the priorities of the government's work this year is to launch a full-fledged work of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on March 3, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to Shmyhal, the ministry faces two important tasks - the launch of the land market from July 1, 2021 and the implementation of a large-scale program to build an irrigation system, which can significantly increase yields in the southern regions.

As Ukrinform reported, in September 2019, the government decided to reorganize the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food by joining it to the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture.

On December 2, 2020, the Prime Minister announced that the Cabinet of Ministers would return to the issue of withdrawing the Ministry of Agrarian Policy from Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture.

On December 17, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada appointed d Head of the State Service for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Roman Leshchenko as Ukraine's Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

In January 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers approved resolution No.1344 that provides for the complete resumption of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food by February 1, 2021.
