Government to launch ‘Affordable Mortgage’ program in March – Shmyhal

The Ukrainian government will launch the Affordable Mortgage program in March 2021, which will simplify access to mortgages and offer a rate of up to 7%.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this during the All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses" in Kyiv on February 9, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"As soon as in March, from the first day, I am sure this program will start operating in Ukraine, the mortgage rate will be reimbursed at the level of up to 7%. For Ukraine, we see a perspective in this and understand that the rate should be reduced even more for certain categories of citizens," Shmyhal said.

According to him, the government is going to work on this issue. "We intend to work in the first half of 2021 and create the possibility of financial leasing and mortgages at 5%. This is the prospect that the government is currently working on with the NBU," said the prime minister.

As reported by Ukrinform, the three-day All-Ukrainian Forum "Ukraine 30. Coronavirus: Challenges and Responses" kicked off in Kyiv on February 8. The event is taking place at the Parkovy Congress and Exhibition Center. According to the agenda, the event is to be attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, representatives of the government, the Verkhovna Rada, and the European Union.
