National Bank keeps discount rate at 6%

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has decided not to change the discount rate and leave it at the level of 6%, NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko says.

"The Board of the National Bank decided to keep the discount rate unchanged at 6% per annum," Shevchenko said at a briefing on Thursday, January 21.

The NBU notes that further monetary policy will be aimed at ensuring an appropriate balance between responding to inflationary risks and supporting economic recovery.

As Ukrinform reported, the NBU Board decided to lower the discount rate to 6% on June 12, 2020. The discount rate was reduced to 8% in April, to 10% in March, to 11% on January 31. The discount rate was regularly reduced in 2019. On April 25, 2019, for the first time in two years, the NBU lowered the discount rate by 0.5% to 17.5% per annum.
