Ukrzaliznytsia to launch trains to territory bordering occupied Crimea

JSC Ukrzaliznytsia in the near future intends to launch trains to the territory bordering the temporarily occupied Crimea. Ukraine cannot launch trains to the peninsula so far.

JSC Ukrzaliznytsia Board Chairman Volodymyr Zhmak said this on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel on Saturday, January 16, Ukrinform reports.

"We are working on the resumption of railway connection with the territories adjacent to Crimea. Unfortunately, we cannot enter Crimea itself," Zhmak said.

He also recalled that in 2020, the company had already resumed railway service with the town of Avdiivka, located on the front line near the occupied Donetsk.

In December 2014, Ukraine suspended all rail services with Crimea after the peninsula’s occupation.
