Ukraine, Moldova planning to build modern highway

Ukraine and Moldova intend to build a modern highway that will reduce the duration of travel between the two countries' capitals to five hours, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

He said this after signing bilateral documents with Moldovan President Moldova Maia Sandu in Kyiv on Tuesday, January 12, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

The event took place without the participation of the media and was broadcast live on the Facebook page of the Ukrainian head of state.

"We have an ambitious idea of building a modern highway that will connect Kyiv and Chisinau. To this end, we discussed the construction of a border bridge over the Dniester River. This will reduce travel between the capitals of our states to five hours," Zelensky said.

He stressed that such a project would help intensify trade between the two countries, facilitate transit and improve people-to-people contacts.

Sandu is in Kyiv on January 12. This is her first official visit since her election as Moldova's president.
