Ukraine resumes electricity imports from Belarus

Ukraine resumed electricity imports from Belarus in January 2021, Ukrenergo National Power Company has reported.

"In particular, the import of electricity from Belarus started at 01:00 on January 3 and amounted to 3,450 MWh per day. On Monday, January 4, imports from the same direction lasted all day and amounted to 3,960 MWh. There are no imports from Russia," the report reads.

Ukrenergo said that in accordance with the final and transitional provisions of the law of Ukraine "On the Electricity Market," the powers of the energy regulator to cancel the results of auctions for access to interstate power grids with countries, which are not members of the Energy Community, are limited to 2020 alone.

"Therefore, the provisions of the resolution of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities, which canceled the results of auctions for access to interstate power grids with Russia and Belarus in 2020, expired from January 1, 2021," the company said.
