Ukraine’s infrastructure minister: Airline industry may show 50% recovery by end of 2021

Next year, the Ukrainian airline industry may recover by 50% compared to its performance in 2019.

"I think that we will be able to recover by 50% by the end of next year compared to performance in 2019 if no turbulence waves arise. Now we have less than 30% recovery, I guess we have 27-28% recovery compared to 2019," Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladyslav Kryklii said during the European Business Association’s Infrastructure Day when asked about the prospects of resuming full-scale work of the airline industry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Ukraine resumes domestic flights on June 5 and international flights on June 15 after temporary suspension as part of quarantine measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, passenger traffic in Ukrainian airports totaled 24.336 million people, up 18.5% compared to 2018. In 2019, Ukrainian airlines performed 102,600 commercial flights (a 2.4% increase compared to 2018).
