Electricity consumption in Ukraine down 1% in October - Ukrenergo

In October 2020, electricity consumption in Ukraine’s electricity system amounted to 9.641 billion kWh, which is 1% less than in October 2019, the press service of Ukrenergo National Power Company reports.

"According to Ukrenergo's operational data, electricity consumption in Ukraine's electricity system (net, excluding network losses) decreased by only 1% in October 2020 compared to October 2019: 9.641 billion kWh against 9.724 billion kWh,” reads the report.

In October 2020, the volume of electricity consumption by industrial consumers decreased by 3.9% compared to October 2019. The decrease was due to a reduction in electricity consumption in the metallurgical industry (down 7.9%). The percentage of electricity consumption reduced significantly (down 12.4%) in the mechanical engineering sector due to quarantine restrictions. At the same time, the chemical and petrochemical industries significantly increased their electricity consumption - by 12.3%.

In October 2020, household consumers increased electricity consumption by 1.8% from October 2019, construction sector - by 4.2%, agricultural consumers - by 5.3%, public utility and other non-industrial consumers - by 3.9% and by 2.6%, respectively.

Since the beginning of the year, electricity consumption (net) totalled 95.9 billion kWh, which is 3.2% less than in January-October 2019. Of all consumer groups, an increase in electricity consumption was recorded only among households (up 2.8%) and agricultural consumers (up 0.6%). At the same time, the highest decrease in electricity consumption was reported in transport sector (down 14.8%) and public utility sector (down 6.9%).
