Gazprom’s gas transit via Ukraine reaches 40 bcm this year

As of October 5, PJSC Gazprom’s gas transit via Ukraine’s gas transmission system reached 40 billion cubic meters, or 2/3 of the gas volumes contracted for 2020, the press service of LLC Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) wrote on Facebook.

“Since the beginning of this year, we have transported 40 billion cubic meters of Russian gas to European countries. As of the morning of October 4, we transported 174 million cubic meters per day. Is it a lot or a little? This is the maximum expected volume that is now stipulated by the contract with Gazprom for the entire 2020," the report reads.

Gas TSO of Ukraine notes that it fully meets its obligations to ensure uninterrupted gas transportation to EU countries, Moldova, and Ukrainian consumers. At the same time, the company recalled that the Ukrainian GTS can transport significantly more natural gas.

As Ukrinform reported, Russia’s Gazprom booked additional capacities for gas transit towards Europe via the Ukrainian gas transmission system in October 2020. Transit services will be paid by Gazprom in addition to the main agreement.

In December 2019, NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine and PJSC Gazprom signed a new five-year gas transit contract with the possibility of extension for 10 years more based on the ‘pump or pay’ principle. The minimum contracted volume of gas transit operations is 65 billion cubic meters in the first year and 40 billion cubic meters in each of the next four years.
