NBU leaves discount rate unchanged at 6%

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has decided to leave its discount rate unchanged at 6%, NBU Governor Kyrylo Shevchenko has said.

"The Board of the National Bank has decided to keep the discount rate unchanged at 6% per annum," Shevchenko said this at a briefing on Thursday, September 3.

Maintaining a soft monetary policy will support economic recovery amid moderate inflation and high uncertainty about the further course of the pandemic in Ukraine and other countries, he said.

The NBU Board decided to reduce the discount rate to 6% on June 12, 2020. The discount rate was reduced to 8% in April, to 10% in March, to 11% on January 31. The discount rate was regularly reduced in 2019. On April 25, 2019, for the first time in two years, the NBU lowered the discount rate by 0.5% to 17.5% per annum.
